About two years ago, a friend of mine asked me what I wanted to draw. I didn't have an answer then, and I still feel like I don't. What do I want to draw?
I'm not asking about the subject matter side of things. That side is easy: Simm and Oubliette, SimmTech, various hyjinks, personal art, etc. I can easily ideas from the MediaWiki page I use to store commission ideas. (Which is an excellent practice, by the way. I recommend everyone do it.) I mean moreso the format and style of the art.
When I go through my favourites on a website like FurAffinity, it doesn't help much (partially because half of them are for subject matter and not style). Some of the few throughlines I can find:
- For anything that isn't a very stylized chibi, I prefer a more realistic animal head. Especially on canines.
- Bold linework, such as you'd find in a lot of Arts and Crafts Movement, Art Noveau, and the more geometric side of Art Deco.
- I'm not a big fan of single-character, pin-up type art unless there's some unique feature (like Alishka's glowies or gold)
